Common Roots Urban Farm (CRUF) is looking for prospective new Advisory Committee and Working Group members to build our team of committed and engaged volunteers to help guide the work of the farm.

The Advisory Committee advises staff and Partners for Care on our interpretation and implementation of CRUF’s long-term Strategic Plan. The committee meets once a month, and consults with four working groups – Evaluation, Design, Operations, Development – which are comprised of members from the Advisory Committee and other volunteers from the community. Advisory Committee Terms of Reference are available upon request. Terms are normally for two years.

We are looking for people with interest and/or experience in:

  • Food security & justice

  • Food education

  • Therapeutic horticulture

  • Social enterprise

  • Landscape design

  • Community engagement

  • Healthcare & hospital engagement

  • Retail and marketing

  • Not-for-profit management

  • Program evaluation

CRUF has since its conception and design been actively committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for the diversity of its visitors and users. The farm not only serves a destination for the entire (diverse) population of the HRM who travel to the hospital, but also at its core sees itself as a community facility of peninsular, downtown Halifax, with a wide range of racial, cultural, and socio-economic diversity. CRUF acknowledges that to benefit from and ensure effective service to this diverse community, the creation of an Advisory Committee that is reflective of the diversity of that community.
