About Common Roots Urban Farms:

We use gardening as a way to promote physical, mental and environmental health. We do this by providing community gardening space; offering skills training and educational workshops; making healthy, ecologically-grown food more accessible to our communities; doing garden programming with hospital patients and our surrounding community, and creating a space for gardening that’s supportive and welcoming.

CRUF Woodside  is a community garden and market garden on the grounds of the Nova Scotia Hospital, which serves mental health and addictions patients. We currently have over 85 community plots that are used by community members, hospital staff and patients. We also have a market garden that grows food for the hospital and community; and common plots that are a space for the general public to explore, learn and sample from.

Common Roots BiHi Park is in it’s second season. In 2019 we moved from CRUF’s original location at the corner of Bell Rd and Robie St to this new site at the bottom of Bayers Rd. In 2019 we built our Market Garden, our community garden, which is currently 36 plots, and areas for people to come, spend time and relax. On this new site we’re continuing to get to know our new community by hosting group visits and community building events, offering formal and informal educational opportunities through workshops and time spent in the garden.
