About

Common Roots – Woodside

Common Roots-Woodside is an urban farm situated on the grounds of the Nova Scotia Hospital, a mental health and addictions hospital.  We use gardening as a way to promote physical, mental and environmental health.  We offer skills training and volunteer opportunities on growing vegetables; make healthy food more accessible to hospital clients, staff and the surrounding community; do gardening programming with clients at the hospital; and create a space for growing food and flowers that’s supportive and welcoming.

Market Garden

Our market garden grows fresh greens, vegetables, herbs and flowers using ecological farming practices.  Produce in the market garden is grown by staff and volunteers for community sale and donation.

Get a Garden Plot

Our community garden plots are 4 feet by 12 feet and cost $30 for the growing season (subsidies available on request).    Water is available on site and garden tools are accessible at select times.  Please contact hillary.lindsay@ecologyaction.ca if you’re interested in a garden plot.

Volunteer

Want to get your hands dirty and work in the sun?  We would love to have your help in the garden!  Volunteers are needed mostly during daytime hours during the week.  Contact hillary.lindsay@ecologyaction.ca for more information.
