About CRUF Woodside

Common Roots Woodside is an urban farm located on the grounds of the Nova Scotia Hospital, a mental health and addictions hospital. Established as a shared community space, the farm is a place where people can connect with the land, grow food, and spend time outdoors in a supportive environment.

We aim to nurture physical, mental, environmental, and community wellbeing. For us, a healthy community is one where everyone feels welcomed, supported, and valued.

The farm offers skills-building and volunteer opportunities focused on growing vegetables, alongside hands-on programming with hospital clients. Food grown on site is shared with clients, staff, and the surrounding community, helping to increase access to fresh, healthy produce.

Teaching Garden

The teaching garden is where we grow vegetables, herbs, flowers, and greens using ecological practices, and where most of the hands-on learning happens. Volunteers often help with planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting here.

What we grow is shared through the Free Food Pantry, with volunteers, and in on-farm programs.
