Have you seen these beautiful new raised beds going into the paved area around the Arbour at the farm?
We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that the Common Roots Urban Farm Healing Garden has been awarded a Barrier Buster grant for $28,855, from the Rick Hansen Foundation’s Access4All program. The grant covers these gorgeous raised beds, garden plots for the blind, more accessible pathways around the farm, and an accessible watering station.
Thanks to this funding, Common Roots will be able to offer people with disabilities more opportunities for physical activity, healthy eating, stress reduction, and social connections to the diverse community of farm users who believe in those activities as contributing to a healthy lifestyle. We also hope this area of the farm will increase our ability to offer therapeutic programming and create a more welcoming and usable space for hospital patients and visitors.
Keep an eye out for an upcoming Official Opening event for the Healing Garden later this summer.
