Another great story from Common Roots on the front page! Read a little about Data Ram Humagai’s new role as Sara’s assistant.

“Data Ram Humagai has come a long way since spending nearly nearly 21 years of his life in a Nepalese refugee camp.

After three years of volunteering at the Common Roots Urban Farm just outside the Halifax Infirmary, Humagai, 58, is the first employee to emerge from the Deep Roots program, which gives new Canadians an opportunity to share their farming knowledge, practise their English and grow food on the property. …

Humagai immigrated to Halifax from Nepal in 2010 and began volunteering in 2014. Now, through a grant from the Department of Labour and Advanced Education, Common Roots has been able to hire him as a full-time assistant to Sara Burgess, the market garden co-ordinator.”
