The Urban Farm Assistant will help in the market garden, community garden and market stand of Common Roots-Woodside at Nova Scotia Hospital in Dartmouth and Common Roots BiHi in Halifax (one person for each site).
Eligibility: The individual must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old and is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act [S.C. 2001, c. 27]*; and legally entitled to work.
Individuals who identify as Indigenous, African Nova Scotian, Black and/or racialized are encouraged to apply and self-identify.
Hours: 35 hours/week at $15.00/hour for 8 weeks with the possibility of extension until August 26th.
Duties
- Help with garden bed preparation, seeding, cultivation and harvest.
- Interact with community gardeners, creating a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.
- Help with washing and preparation of produce and flowers for sale.
- Help with market stand
Applicants should be comfortable with outdoor physical work in all kinds of weather and be interested in gardening, mental health, and working with people. Some evening and weekend hours should be expected.
Drivers license and access to a vehicle is an asset but not a requirement of the job.
